Networking logistic neurons can yield chaotic and pattern recognition properties

2011

Accepted version of an article the book: 2011 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence for Measurement Systems and Applications (CIMSA) Proceedings. Published version available from IEEE: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/CIMSA.2011.6059914 Over the last few years, the field of Chaotic Neural Networks (CNNs) has been extensively studied because of their potential applications in the understanding/recognition of patterns and images, their associative memory properties, their relationship to complex dynamic system control, and their capabilities in the modeling and analysis of other measurement systems. However, the results concerning CNNs which can demonstrate chaos, quasi-chaos, …

Long Distance, Low Data Rate Packet Transmission at 868 MHz: Protocol Design and Implementation

2016

Masteroppgave informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Data transmission over wireless networks can be achieved in various ways. Some of these technologies are feasible in many real life scenarios, but there are many consequences we have to consider in this field, such as packet loss, quality degradation of radio signal over distance incrementation, ambient noise, transmission delay and etc. For the low data rate packet transmission, to adapt and to address IoT is one of the most discussed topics nowadays, especially in terms of transmission protocol design and the implementation of that design in real life scenarios. Transmitting packets in low data rate over l…

The Developmental Contribution From Mobile Phones Across the Agricultural Value Chain in Rural Africa

2011

Published version of an article from the journal: The Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries. Also available fro the publisher: http://www.ejisdc.org/Ojs2/index.php/ejisdc/article/viewFile/849/377 The most widespread information and communication technology (ICT) in developing countries today is the mobile phone. The majority of people in the least developed countries still live in rural areas and their livelihood depends on the primary industries. This study investigates the use of mobile phones among farmers in rural Tanzania in order to supply empirical data on the developmental role of this technology. The results show that the improved access to communication…

A novel policy-driven reversible anonymisation scheme for XML-based services

2015

Author's version of an article in the journal: Information Systems. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.is.2014.05.007 This paper proposes a reversible anonymisation scheme for XML messages that supports fine-grained enforcement of XACML-based privacy policies. Reversible anonymisation means that information in XML messages is anonymised, however the information required to reverse the anonymisation is cryptographically protected in the messages. The policy can control access down to octet ranges of individual elements or attributes in XML messages. The reversible anonymisation protocol effectively implements a multi-level privacy and security based approach, s…

Big Data in operations and supply chain management: a systematic literature review and future research agenda

2021

In the era of digitalisation, the role of Big Data is proliferating, receiving considerable attention in all sectors and domains. The domain of operations and supply chain management (OSCM) is no different since it offers multiple opportunities to generate a large magnitude of data in real-time. Such extensive opportunities for data generation have attracted academics and practitioners alike who are eager to tap different elements of Big Data application in OSCM. Despite the richness of prior studies, there is limited research that extensively reviews the extant findings to present an overview of the different facets of this area. The current study addresses this gap by conducting a systema…

Adaptive Backbone and Link Correlation based Data Transmission Schemes for Wireless Sensor Networks

2015

Masteroppgave informasjons- og kommunikasjonsteknologi - Universitetet i Agder, 2015 One of the main challenges faced by modern wireless sensor networks (WSN) is rapid energy depletion of individual sensor nodes. In many applications, sensor nodes are deployed in outdoor environments and it is difficult to replace or recharge node batteries. Depending on network topology and the transmission schemes implemented, certain nodes could have higher energy consumption compared with other nodes. In highly unbalanced load distributions this could lead to early total energy depletion of a critical node in the topology resulting in what is known as an energy hole in the network. Considering these fac…

Career practitioners' conceptions of competency for social media in career services

2014

This article reports findings from a phenomenographic investigation into career practitioners' understanding of competency for social media in career services. Sixteen Danish and Finnish practitioners with experience using social media in career services were interviewed in focus groups. Competency for social media in career services was conceived as (i) an ability to use social media for delivering information, (ii) an ability to use social media for delivering career services, (iii) an ability to utilise social media for collaborative career exploration and (iv) an ability to utilise social media for co-careering. The findings can be used to develop pre-service and in-service training of …
